Removing Barriers for Recruiting and Retaining Excellent and Diverse Staff

Educators have sounded the alarm about the nationwide teacher shortage. It is important for Fayette County Public Schools attract the best and brightest to teach in Lexington. Fayette County is minority majority district where more than 54% of our students are nonwhite. We know from research that students in classrooms where they have teachers that look like them or come from backgrounds like them, they develop more of a relationship with the teacher and their teacher becomes a mentor. The Foundation is working with the district and other community leaders to find short- and long-term solutions to the growing need for teachers.
