Alan Marcus Stein Leaders in Education Giving Society created
The Fayette Education Foundation is thrilled to announce the creation of the Alan Marcus Stein Leaders in Education Giving Society in appreciation of his lifetime commitment to Fayette County Public Schools and to honor his legacy as the first Chairman of the Board of The Fayette Education Foundation.
“We know a vibrant and prosperous community is inextricably linked to the value its community members place on quality education,” said Jeff Koonce, market president at WesBanco and the Foundation’s incoming board chair. “The giving society offers community members a meaningful way to support public education because we believe that all community members have a stake in their public schools.”
The name Alan Stein is synonymous with Lexington, particularly when it comes to baseball and radio but it is Alan’s dedication to the Fayette County Public School (FCPS) system over the years that spurred this special recognition. Alan is an FCPS alumni having attended Cassidy Elementary, Breckinridge Elementary, Morton Junior High School and is a proud 1970 graduate from Henry Clay High School. His father and all three of his children are also Henry Clay graduates.
Alan’s volunteer service for the district is extensive. He currently serves as the first-ever chair of this current iteration of The Fayette Education Foundation. He has twice served on redistricting committees in 2003 and 2014-15. Alan was a member of the Equity Council in the late 1990s and served on multiple superintendent search committees. He served as founding co-chair of the Academies of Lexington and chaired the Facilities Nickel Tax Incentive Committee to Support School Safety Initiative. Alan has served on the Long Range Planning committee since 2012 and served on the FCPS Advisory Committee on Athletics from 2004-2007. All of this in addition to serving on multiple other community boards including the Governor’s Scholar Program and the BCTC Foundation Board.
Lexington is lucky to have Alan Stein as a staunch supporter of public education.
